Annual Sanctuary Ocean Count

when: Jan 2012 (various dates)
where: Oahu
time: 8am-12.15pm
The sight of a whale breaching must rank among the most magnificent natural spectacles on earth! Make it to Hawaii in the winter months and you can enjoy it while helping to ensure the survival of these majestic creatures.

The annual whale count all over Hawaii state gives you the opportunity to view these creatures in their natural habitat and participate in the conservation of humpback whales in a state-wide effort to estimate their population.

Group leaders guide volunteers in a systematic count at selected shorelines and lookout points on three islands, O'Ahu, Kaua'I and Big Island, providing them with the necessary tools and information. Visit the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuaries website for further details of how to participate.
